Let me begin by saying I do not know a lot about this trunk and I am no expert. I cannot find another one exactly like it online. From information I have gathered I believe it is a camel back trunk from the 1870s or 1880s.
Several pieces of the hardware on the trunk have "Patent mar 16" on them.
Dimensions: Length 32", 18" wide, 21" tall, 14" deep
The trunk is made of metal and wood. The leather handle/strap on the left side of the trunk has been broken off and is MIA. The latch on the front is intact, but it won't latch and the key is also MIA, presumably with the leather handle. Maybe they are lying on a beach somewhere together.
I have posted the maximum number of pictures, which is not enough to show all the details of the trunk. If you would like to see more pictures of different parts or from different angles, feel free to email me.
