Tortoiseshell - Sophia Loren - Small - Senior - Female - Cat
We really don't know much about Sophia's background, but it's not hard to figure out that she has had a very hard and sad life. We first learned about her when a volunteer was contacted by a horse boarding farm and told that a cat had been dumped out of a car at the farm and they had subsequently trapped her.
We soon learned that this little cat was actually a senior, and had several infected teeth. She was very emaciated when we got her, and infested with fleas. Her long coat was matted and her skin covered with flea-bite sores. We ended up having her shaved down to a short coat, had several teeth removed, and...of course...made sure she had plenty of nutritious meals.
This kitty now looks like a different cat, and we named her "Sophia" after Sophia Loren! She was so traumatized and fearful when we got her that it was difficult to pet her. However, we soon learned that she actually CRAVES affection, and once she got over her fear of people began to absolutely love to be petted and brushed. She now enjoys being picked up and cuddled, and wants to be wherever you are! What a transformation, and we are so thankful that we had a chance to give this sweet girl a second chance for a good life.
Sophia has a small hole in the membrane of her throat, and her breathing always sounds labored. This doesn't slow her down, and she still plays like a kitten at times. We do classify her as special needs, and her ideal adopter will be that rare individual who says "Give me the cat no one else wants.' If you are that person, we promise you will be richly rewarded.
All of our cats have been spayed/neutered, tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS, vaccinated, treated for internal and external parasites, and microchipped. Please note that Sophia's has a "special needs" adoption fee of $50.
